The Datadog Migration Feature Is Now GA. The Last Barrier to Switching is Gone.
groundcover’s Datadog Migration feature is now generally available, turning a months-long, high-risk migration into a fully automated, zero-downtime process. No consultants, no spreadsheets, no fear with just a fast, safe path to modern observability.

Migration used to mean fear. Now it’s just a few clicks.
When we launched the Migration Tool in private preview, something became very clear very quickly. The problem was never that teams wanted to stay with legacy observability vendors. It was that leaving them felt impossible.
Even when the math made sense, even when everyone agreed the bill was unsustainable, even when the team genuinely wanted something better, the same blocker kept showing up.
Migration fear.
Break one dashboard. Miss one query. Lose one integration. The risk always outweighed the reward. And legacy vendors knew it.
Today that changes.
Our Datadog Migration feature is officially Generally Available (GA), and it turns a process that once took half a year and a six-figure budget into something your team can kick off in a few clicks. Fully automated. Self-service. Zero switching costs. No downtime. No consultants. No cliff to jump off.
Just migration without the pain.
What GA Actually Means
We took everything we learned from the preview and rebuilt the experience around one simple idea: migrating observability should not require courage. It should be boring. Predictable. Safe.
So that is what we built.
You connect Datadog with a read-only key, and the tool immediately discovers your entire environment. Dashboards, monitors, alert workflows, integrations, custom metrics, label structures. It builds the map for you so your team does not waste months creating spreadsheets no one trusts.
From there, the mapping engine takes over. During the private preview we expanded it significantly, adding more than three hundred sensor metrics to groundcover so we could mirror Datadog’s coverage and translate queries. The system handles metric and label mapping automatically. Anything unique to your company gets mapped once and reused everywhere.

Pixel-Perfect Where It Matters
Dashboards are the emotional part of observability. People know how they should look. They know when something feels off. So we rebuilt our rendering engine to make translations land exactly where they should. Three column layouts. Nested sections. Widget behavior. The kinds of details that do not show up on a feature list but absolutely matter when you are on call at two in the morning.
If something cannot be translated perfectly, the tool flags it with clear context and suggestions instead of sweeping it under the rug.
And the best part is the validation flow. You can see Datadog on one side of the screen and groundcover on the other. Panel by panel. Query by query. You know it works before you cut over. No freeze weekend. No anxiety. No leap of faith.
Integrations Without the Tickets
GA also brings the full Integrations Center online. AWS, GCP, Azure, custom metrics. Configure everything directly in the UI or use API and Terraform if that is your workflow. The tool identifies what you had in Datadog and guides you through the equivalent setup.
You can start, pause or resume migration at your own pace. No pressure. No coordination overhead. Just a clean, controlled path from old to new.

The Outcome: No More Reasons to Stay Put
With this general availability, Migration is not a promise. It is a path used by real teams who are now moving faster, paying less and running observability inside their own cloud with complete confidence.
The numbers speak for themselves. Ninety percent faster migration time. Up to seventy percent lower total cost of ownership. Full dashboard layout fidelity. All data staying in your VPC. Zero downtime during cutover. Zero added cost.
And Datadog is only the beginning. The architecture is already designed to support other legacy vendors, and that work is underway.
Come See It Live at re:Invent
If you want to see what automated migration actually feels like, come find us at booth #1732 at AWS re:Invent. Bring your hardest dashboard or the monitor you swear will never translate. We will show you what happens when the lock-in disappears.
General availability is here. The moat is gone. And for the first time, switching observability platforms is a choice you can make without fear.
