Agent assisted OTTL rules and Dashboard improvements

The agent can now write OTTL rules for you to help you parse, drop, or obfuscate traces. Dashboards got easier to navigate and easier to read, starting with favorites and pinning for anyone whose dashboard list has gotten out of hand. Underneath both, a new ingestion service and a standby ClickHouse cluster.

groundcover Agent now writes OTTL rules in addition to log rules

The groundcover agent now writes OTTL rules and shows you the diff on real data. This feature is an extension of the functionality that already exists for logs, enabling you to use the Agent to write new rules which parse, enrich, drop or obfuscate traces. 

For example, a span carrying a customer email in a request body needs to be obfuscated. Alternatively, the health-check traffic is no longer being utilized and  it needs to be dropped. Now you can ask the agent in plain language to “drop health-check spans for this workload”, “mask emails in request bodies”, or “turn these spans into a counter”. It writes the OTTL and hands you a preview before creating anything. It returns the GCQL query it used to find matching spans, the rules it generated, real sample spans from your data, and result diffs for each one. Every rule is validated against actual spans first, so a rule that doesn't compile never makes it to the preview.

Pin your favorite dashboards

We’ve added the ability to star and pin dashboards to help you find the most important ones.  Pin one and it lands in the left nav, for quick access. You can also star a dashboard as favorite and filter for them. Both of these actions are per use. If you have a monitoring dashboard you live in, it now behaves like a dedicated page instead of something you go hunting for.

Dashboards also got improvements to widgets including a rebuilt text widget and more control over what charts show. Specifically, the improvements include; 

  • Each query in a time series can also carry its own color palette, overriding the widget default. This is useful when two related series come out in near-identical shades and you can't tell which line is which.

  • The text widget is now a proper markdown editor with a real edit mode and an explicit save. You get background and font colors from the same palette sections used,. 
  • Hide individual queries from a widget's display.
  • Add a formula and the underlying queries are hidden by default, as before, but you can now show them alongside the formula result instead of choosing between the two. 
  • There’s also right y-axis support for time series complete with per-query axis selection.

This update widens what groundcover can see and tightens how you work with the agent. Mobile joins RUM, databases and Azure Application Insights come in as new sources, the widget builder got rebuilt, and the agent picked up two real controls: run its tools asynchronously so it can talk to other agents, and steer an investigation while it's still running.

Most of the work in this release landed in two places: dashboards and the agent. Dashboards got easier to template and easier to keep tidy. We shipped variables that map across data sources, saved views you can re-apply in one click, and facets plus bulk actions so a long list stops being a scrolling exercise. The agent picked up things it couldn't do before, too: build a monitor from a plain-English description, scope a question to an exact key:value with @mentions, and take images as input, whether that's a screenshot of a problem or a rough sketch of the dashboard you want it to build. And your groundcover links now unfurl into real cards in Slack, so a trace or log shows up where the incident's already being talked about.

Faster, higher-quality dashboards from the agent, and an issues page built for investigation

Two things anchor this release. groundcover Agent Mode builds for you across the platform and it does so even better. You can create a dashboard faster with the groundcover Agent, and the result is better than the old create flow gave you. The issues page got a real redesign around how customers actually investigate an alert, with that same view now showing up in Slack when a monitor fires. We also released cost monitoring on AWS, easier dashboard management from the outside, and the usual round of improvements and fixes below.

Catalogs, Cost, and a More Capable Agent

July 16, 2026

This release is about self-serve retention, cost management, new agent skills, and easier dashboarding. Customers get a smarter way to build dashboards with a catalog of pre-built dashboards you can preview on your own data. Agent Mode now builds dashboard widgets for you. Plus the Slack app enables you to do more with the groundcover Agent without leaving the channel while sharing more of it’s processing. AWS Cost lands as a first-class data source, which opens up a whole new track for groundcover around cloud cost management. Finally, users have a smarter way to manage data retention–a natural byproduct of groundcover’s BYOC and per-node pricing model. There's also a long list of improvements and fixes underneath.

Faster issue response, richer context: Slack, Linear, Monitor health, and dashboard upgrades

These past 2 weeks focused on helping teams surface issues, act faster, and keep context attached from alert to resolution. Slack Connector now routes monitor notifications to the right channels and lets the groundcover agent investigate with the full thread as context, while Linear Connector turns Monitor Issues into tickets and brings Linear knowledge back into root cause analysis. We also made monitors easier to trust, with monitor health in the drawer, No Data state-change reasons and routing, and modern Monitor/Issues views with filters, facets, tables, and saved team views. Plus, Storage Management adds retention control, Treemap brings a new visualization to Explore and Dashboards, and dashboard updates add thresholds, conditional colors, Y-axis labels, decimal controls, and clearer metric formatting.
